Thirteen young women who were abducted by unknown people in Zambia have been rescued months after they disappeared.

The thirteen ladies, aged between 17 and 28, including a mobile money booth operator who became the face of the abductees after a video in which she appeared to be beaten with a metal rod while pleading for mercy went viral about six months ago.

Robby Chitambo, the first responder, organized his friends to break into the residence and then described in graphic detail what he observed once inside.

After he called the police, he claims to have discovered a casket, used condoms, and sanitary napkins inside the home.

A ransom was being sought by the kidnappers. And in spite of police best efforts, they were unable to locate the suspect.

On Monday, however, one of the kidnapped individuals climbed a wall at the house where they were being held in the Chalala neighborhood of Lusaka.

She screamed for help, and the neighbours broke in to free them.

“We helped the ladies by taking them out. One of them is pregnant. We found a casket and a shrine inside the house. There were also charms, pads and condoms everywhere," he narrated.

Inspector General of Police Lemmy Kajoba released a statement confirming that all casualties were transported to a hospital.

He reported that a suspect who was cooperating with police had been detained. Many social media users in Zambia expressed their excitement at the new situation.
