And The Nominees Are; Tanzanian singer Zuchu and Nairobi's Nikita Kering

On May 24, The Headies released the list of nominees and their categories ahead of the 15th year of the annual award show set to hold on September 4 this year. 

We are excited to see the new, on the come up, and consistent names of women in the music industry from Nigeria and across Africa who are among the list of nominees. 

In the ongoing series, Document Women touches on the illustrious women who have been nominated for the annual Headies awards.

 

NIKITA KERING 

Nairobi born Nikita Kering is a Kenyan singer, media personality and actress. She was born in 2002 and at 20 is one of Kenya’s fastest rising stars. 

Nikita signed a record deal in 2012 with EmPawa Africa and has gone ahead to win nominations at awards show such as Pulse Music Video Awards, All Africa Music Awards, and now a nomination at The Headies in the Best East African Artiste of the Year category. 

 

ZUCHU 

The Zanzibar born Zuchu is a singer and singer from Tanzania. She was awarded the silver plaque by YouTube for hitting 100,000 subscribers mark within a week making her the first East African female to achieve this feat. She was also recognized as the first female in East Africa to hit 2 million YouTube subscribers.

In 2020, Zuchu won the Emerging Artiste Award at AFRIMMA. In May, Zuchu emerged “Spotify Equal Africa Artiste”.

The Headies will be her second major nomination in the Best East African Artiste of the Year category.
