In the ongoing series, Document Women touches on the illustrious women who have been nominated for the annual Headies awards. This week, we have Nigeria’s Teni and Ghana’s Gyakie.
TENI
Singer and songwriter, Teni, was born in 1992 in Lagos State. She is the younger sister of Nigerian singer and fellow nominee Niniola. Teni is a graduate of the American Intercontinental University where she obtained a degree in business administration.
Teni had bagged the Rookie of the Year award the 2018 Headies Awards, and Most Promising Act to Watch at the 2018 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. She also went ahead to win Best New Artist at the Soundcity MVP Awards Festival in 2022. She has also been nominated this year in the Best Female Artist category.
GYAKIE
Jackline Acheampong is a Ghanaian afrobeat/afro singer. afrobeat/afro singer born 1999 in Kumasi, Ghana. Influenced early in her music career by sounds from Asa and Omar Sterling, her music style incorporates the Afrobeats, highlife, and alternative RnB.
She has signed record deals with Sony Music entertainment, RCA Records UK and Sony Music Africa.
In 2022, Gyakie won the Woman of the Year award for the 3Music Awards during the 3Music Women’s brunch. She is up on The Headies nomination list in the category of Best West African Artiste of the Year award.
