A Chinese national identified as Geng Quanrong has been alleged to be the killer of Ummukulsum Buhari in Kano.

Ms Buhari was reportedly hacked to death in her family house at Janbulo Quarters in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State on Friday night.

“She was my daughter; he (the Chinese man) always comes around wanting to see her and she has been refusing. This time around when he came, he kept knocking on the door,"

Ms Buhari's mother told Daily Trust. "When I was fed up of him hitting the door loudly, I opened the door and he pushed me aside and got in and started stabbing her with a knife."

Mr Quanrong is a Chinese employee of the BBY textile company in the Kwari Market in Kano.

Kano police spokesman SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa confirmed the incident, explaining that Mr Geng had stabbed Ms Buhari multiple times after jumping into the deceased's residence.

Mr Kiyawa said that the mother of the deceased raised an alarm and the police were alerted of the development. Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Lawan, directed the DPO, Dorayi Babba, to take charge of the situation.

Mr Geng has since been transferred to the state headquarters at Bompai for further investigation and prosecution.

Vanguard reports that Ms Buhari was buried Saturday morning in Kano.

Nigerians have taken to Twitter to vent their anger and demand action from the state and federal governments, with the hashtag #JusticeForUmmita.

“This is a very sad and devastating story of a Chinese man slaughtering a young lady in Kano. Good to find out that the perpetrator has since been arrested by the authorities. #JusticeForUmmita,” said Bashir Ahmad, an aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, reacting to the news.
