CWG2022; More Medals and New Records as Team Nigeria Sweep 30 Medals

Team Nigeria recorded more medals yesterday at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, as Eucharia Iyiazi and Ugochi Alam won gold and bronze respectively in the women’s F55-57 Shot Put final.

Iyiazi, threw a new Commonwealth Games record of 10.03meters to win the gold medal for Nigeria.

Favour Ofili ran a time of 22.51 to win silver in the women’s 200m event at the Commonwealth Games on Saturday.

"Brilliant end to a grueling season: Favour Ofili arrived in the UK for #CommonwealthGames2022, and was quarantined after testing positive to Covid-19. She recovered in time to compete in women's 200m, and has now won her first senior medal outside Africa...a Star πŸ‘πŸ‘," Making Of Champions said on Twitter.

The 19-year-old sprinter, who arrived in the United Kingdom and was quarantined after testing positive to Covid-19, was the third Nigerian athlete to feature in the women’s 200m final at the Commonwealth Games, finishing behind Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson-Herah at the Alexander Stadium on Saturday night.

The race, which was the last event of the day, saw Nigeria claim its 30th medal of the championships. Team Nigeria now secured 9 gold, 8 silver, and 13 bronze medals.
