Authorities in Abakaliki have confirmed the suicide of a final-year student named Favour Ugwuka at Ebonyi State University.

Reportedly, Miss Favour took her own life in her dormitory on the Ishieke Campus of the university located in Abakaliki, the capital of the state.

According to the ongoing investigation, the deceased was a final year English major who passed all of her courses except one, which she had failed so many times on account of her lecturer swearing she would never pass it.

Correspondent of Punch was reported to have come across a somber video online in which a woman claiming to be the daughter’s mother accused a lecturer of pressuring her daughter to take her own life.

According to the woman, who was seen lamenting in the video, “Dr Enyi said he is the best, that nobody can teach like him. He should come and carry my daughter who has committed suicide.”

Additionally, a former student named Rex Nwome asserted that the girl’s frequent failures in that class were the final straw that led her to take her own life.

He said, “Favour was my classmate and a best friend to me in the English Department. The above-mentioned lecturer did vow never to allow Favour to graduate.”

“You could imagine where she later passed all the courses except that lecturer’s that, she had to pay another extra year tuition fee to rewrite.”

“Unfortunately the man failed her again. What resulted in this intense depression is the latest NYSC names that were recently shortlisted, and her name wasn’t there.”

He added, “The girl suffered a lot of depression because she was only left wandering about the EBSU seeking help. She was very desperate to graduate and serve. This and many more of the disgusting stories resulted in this suicide mission.”

“I wish she didn’t go this far to end her life. R. I. P Ugwuka Favour till we meet to part no more.”

On Thursday, the development was confirmed by the Ebonyi Command of the Nigeria Police Force, and it was reported to have gotten to the headquarters.
