Google Announces New Accelerator Programme, Encourages Female African Founders To Apply

By Azeezat Okunlola | Feb 3, 2023

On Tuesday, Google introduced a women-focused accelerator programme in Africa, to help more African women break into the IT industry. A viable product or service, business concept, and team are required for applicants to be considered.

Beginning in March 2023, the 12-week programme will feature one boot camp each month, delivered via a combination of online and in-person sessions.

The selected firms will be given access to Google's products, resources, tools, and technology, as well as coaching from industry experts, access to Google's cloud platform, and connections to investors.

Reflecting Google's commitment to startups and the specific obstacles encountered by women business owners in Africa, this initiative is an expansion of the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa programme launched in 2017.

"We believe that investing in women founders in Africa is critical for economic empowerment that will enable the creation of jobs for the growing African youth population," said Folarin Aiyegbusi, Google's Head of Startup Ecosystem, Africa.

The application deadline is February 20th, 2023; interested women founders can apply at g.co/acceleratorafrica if they are creating innovative startups in Africa or for Africa.
