Hajiya Kaltume Gana
Kaltume Bulama Gana is an artist and younger sister of Nigeria Ambassador to Malawi, Amb. Mohammed Lawan Gana.
One of her notable works is the painting of ‘Queen Amina’ for Zumunta Association Washington DC, USA. She is married with a child.
Early life
Kaltume Gana was born December 1964 in Kano state to a homemaker/ housewife Mother and banker Father. She did a lot of travelling which made her move along with her family and gave them an avenue to interact with other cultures and understand different people.
Career/ Education.
Ahe acquired a BA in fine arts in 1985, specializing in painting, and MFA in painting, in 1990, Ahmadu Bello University. She did extensive studies in Islamic Arts at Mimar Sisan University, Istanbul, Turkey.
She has worked as a TV program presenter at the graphics department, Kano State Television, Kano in 1985-1986, Assistant Director, Creative Arts Department, History & Culture Bureau, Kano, from 1987. She is a Member of the Society of Nigerian Artists.
Her Solo Exhibitions include British Council, Kano in April 1-14, 1987. Alliance Francaise, Kano, December 1987 And International Women's Day, Kano in March 1988.
Her Group Exhibitions can be found in the Department of Fine Arts, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, June 1985, NYSC Exhibition, National Theatre, Lagos, December 1985. Kashim Ibrahim Library, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, November 1989. "Islam in Africa," Central Mosque Conference Hall, Abuja, November 1989 and many others.
Achievements
Hajia Kaltume Gana is the founder of the Herwa Heart of Art Initiative, which teaches children and young women affected by the Boko Haram insurgency on new vocational skills that enables them to be self-reliant. Her works have been exhibited in Washington DC, Vienna, Britain and Senegal. Some of her works include:
