Africa's campaign at the Women's World Cup will begin this Friday with Nigeria's opening game. The eleven-time winners of the Women's African Cup of Nations will be hoping to beat previous performances at the Women's World Cup tournament with Australia and New Zealand as hosts.
After receiving a warm welcome in Brisbane, Australia, some members of the Nigerian staff and players participated in traditional dances with their hosts.
The ceremony took place on Saturday, five days before the FIFA Women’s World Cup kicks off.
On Friday, they'll have their first play in the tournament, against the Olympic champions Canada at Melbourne Rectangular Stadium. As part of a challenging Group B, they'll also have to wrestle with co-hosts Australia and Ireland.
The first country from the Arab region to ever qualify for a FIFA Women’s World Cup, Morocco will hope to make a mark at Australia and New Zealand 2023 while Zambia face 2011 World Champions Japan in their Group C opener before meeting Spain and Costa Rica.
