Nigerian filmmaker Priye Diri as the first Nigerian to be part of the esteemed 10th edition of the Global Media Makers LA Residency.
This program, orchestrated by Film Independent and backed by the U.S. Department of State, serves as a bridge connecting international filmmakers with the American entertainment industry. Its overarching goal? To cultivate a worldwide network for independent storytelling, fueling both creative prosperity and artistic liberty.
Over the course of five intense weeks, Priye will immerse herself in refining her narrative feature, “Baby Girl,” alongside her fellow residents. The residency provides a rich curriculum covering screenwriting, directing, creative development, and documentary filmmaking. Moreover, cultural engagement sessions, masterclasses, and industry rendezvous promise to further enhance the experience.
At the heart of “Baby Girl” lies an exploration of the intricacies within a mother-daughter relationship and a woman’s journey toward self-discovery. In the face of stiff competition—over 650 applications—Priye’s selection stands as a testament to her extraordinary talent and compelling narrative.
This residency acts as a melting pot for filmmakers from diverse corners of the globe, including Bangladesh, India, and Mexico. Such diversity fosters enduring collaborations among seasoned mentors and peers, thereby reinforcing the program’s central mission of cultivating a thriving international community of independent filmmakers.
