Post-mortem Unravels Cause of Death of KU Student, June Jerop Kangogo

A post-mortem has revealed that June Jerop Kangogo, the 36-year-old accountant at National Industrial Training Authority who was discovered dead in Kenya, died from excessive bleeding as a result of stabbing.

The autopsy performed on Thursday at the Montezuma Monalisa Funeral Home in Nairobi revealed that she died from a deep stab to the chest. 

“As a result of my examination, I formed the opinion that the cause of death was excessive bleeding due to stabbing. "The body had a deep stab wound in the chest, through to the heart," the pathologist reported.

According to the report, the murder weapon reached the heart.

The test was performed with Jerop's loved ones present. This, according to her sister Joyce Jepkemoi, was the second autopsy after one was performed last week.

"As a family we want justice. This is a young soul lost. We want thorough investigations done. It will bring justice for June and stop other perpetrators from committing such acts," said Jepkemoi.

The Moiben Constituency family in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, has demanded prompt investigations into the murder.

What she did to deserve such cruelty, we want to know," Jepkemoi added, referring to the victim's family. 

The police had previously stated that Jerop's body was bloated and coated in blood when it was discovered near Jamhuri Primary School.

On March 19th, Jerop vanished. Her coworkers informed her loved ones the following week that she had missed Monday and Tuesday off work. A search party located her body the following week at City Mortuary.

“Her friends told us she informed them that she was going to meet a male friend, but did not disclose much more about it, only for her body to be found dumped on the roadside on Monday morning. We assumed that the battery on her phone had run out of power,” Joyce Jepkemoi stated.

The motive behind the murder is yet to be established. Her body was found by the side of the road, days after she was last seen leaving class at KU for a coffee date and failing to return.

Jesse Wafula Wakukha has been arrested by detectives looking into the murder on March 24 at Landi Mawe, a neighborhood in the Industrial Area of Nairobi County, since they considered him a prime suspect.

The 32-year-old was taken into custody, according to the authorities, because his and Jerop's mobile signals coincided on March 19, and two other suspects were discovered to have made numerous calls to her on the night of the murder.

"The movements and the connections of the phones reveal that they were together all the time, and that is what led us to arrest the main suspect," the police stated.“More than seven people have recorded statements and we are pursuing more who interacted with her before she met her death,” a detective in the case stated.

On the other hand, Jerop's sister - Joyce Jepkemoi, maintained that they were suspicious of the connection between the main suspect with some of her sister's colleagues, even as they called on the police to speed up their investigations.

"The suspect is coincidentally a relative of one of her colleagues. For us, it is really raising a lot of eyebrows,"  she stated.

Mr Wakukha was one of three suspects who appeared in a Makadara court earlier this week while police asked for extra time to complete their investigations. His two other companions are Allan Wafula and Timothy Masika.

On April 14, all three defendants will be back in court.
