South African Police Continues to Investigate Disappearance of 6 Year Old Joslin Smith
Four individuals have been apprehended by the South African police in connection with the two-week-old disappearance of a girl aged six.
Since Joslin Smith went missing outside her Saldanha Bay house, close to Cape Town, the nation has been gripped by the search for her whereabouts.
The frantic search continued on Monday with the addition of 300 naval personnel, a dog team, drones, and rescuers from Cape Town.
In relation to the disappearance, two women and two men have been interrogated.
The police spokeswoman in South Africa's Western Cape province, Brig Novela Potelwa, stated that "light will be shed as to her whereabouts or what happened to her" as the investigation progresses.
In an open field near the spot where Joslin went missing on 19 February, detectives discovered bloodstained garments on Saturday.
In the days after the girl vanished, members of the neighbourhood, in a state of panic, combed in sewers and pits. An enraged mob, according to Saldanha Bay Mayor André Truter, had been accosting neighbours and searching homes for the youngster.
Anyone with information on her location has been offered a prize of 100,000 rand ($5,200; £4,100).
Jacquin Appollis, who was her mother's boyfriend, was left in charge of her when she disappeared.
According to the authorities, he was unable to explain her location. His participation in her disappearance is vehemently denied.
In an earlier interview with the local paper, The Daily Voice, Joslin's mum expressed her determination to keep trying.
"My motherly instincts are telling me my daughter is still alive and in this area. We will find her, I will walk on foot to find her. I will look in every little shack, I'm going to do it by myself if I have to."
