On May 24, The Headies released the list of nominees and their categories ahead of the 15th year of the annual award show set to hold on September 4 this year.
We are excited to see the new, on the come up, and consistent names of women in the music industry from Nigeria and across Africa who are among the list of nominees.
In the ongoing series, Document Women touches on the illustrious women who have been nominated for the annual Headies awards.
DIRECTOR PINK
22-year old Praise Onyeagwulam, popularly known as Director Pink, is a filmmaker and director. She produced visuals to Chike’s Roju, visuals for Follow You by Fiokee featuring Gyakie and Chike. Director Pink also reimagined the popular Nigerian horror tale of Lady (/Madam) Koi Koi in a movie adaptation put up on YouTube.
The Economics student from the University of Lagos who runs an all-female production team for the visuals to the remix of Chike’s If You No Love featuring Mayorkun. She also directed the video for the refix of Chike’s Running with Simi, a video that now has close to 2 million views on YouTube alone.
Pink has been nominated in the category of Best Music Video for her production and direction of Nigerian singer and songwriter Chike’s Roju.
GOODGIRL LA
Formerly known as Landern, Euphemia Ekumah now known as GOODGIRL LA is a Nigerian soul singer and Afro fusion music artiste. She was also a participant of the Glo Naija Sings and Nigerian Idols competition.
In pursuit of a career in music, she bagged a degree in music theory from the MUSON School of Music in Lagos. She has been nominated in the coming Headies award in the Best Collaboration category for Early Momo by Vector in which she featured in.
