FIFA Women's World Cup 2023: Morocco and Colombia Qualify For Round of 16

By Azeezat Okunlola | Aug 4, 2023
Morocco won their last Group H encounter against Colombia, and given the draw between Germany and South Korea in the other match, both teams advanced to the knockout stage.

With six points each, Colombia and Morocco top the group, followed by Germany with four and South Korea with one.

The women's team is about to start on an unbelievable voyage in Australia and New Zealand, following in the footsteps of the men's team, who shocked the world in Qatar last year.

The Atlas Lionesses were challenged late in the game, but they rose to the occasion.

Lahmari scored the game-winning goal immediately before halftime, after Perez had saved a penalty kick. A goal that will be remembered forever.

Morocco has qualified and will play France in the round of 16. The match is scheduled on Tuesday in Adelaide.

Group H's champions Colombia would face another surprising opponent, Jamaica in the knockout stage. That matchup is scheduled for Melbourne on Tuesday as well.

For the Atlas Lionesses, this Women's World Cup is their first ever, and they got off to a horrible start with a 6-0 loss to Germany in their opening game.

But they've come storming back with consecutive 1-0 victories. This is an unbelievable turn of events for the North African team.
